Workshops 2016
HiFest will host a weekend full of fun, family-friendly workshops to participate in – led by a number of leading illustration professionals. All workshops are free with materials provided.
SATURDAY 3RD DECEMBER
‘MAKING TRIANGLES!’ (ALL DAY)
Have fun creating your very own HiFest triangle character, inspired by our fantastic identity by Benjamin Phillips
‘EXTREME BALLOON MODELLING’ (12PM)
with Richard Hogg
Everyone is rubbish at balloon modelling. Even the bloke running this workshop. Nevertheless, united in our ineptitude, we will make ambitious, beautiful and extraordinary things together. No poodles!
(Please note: All our welcome on this workshop but it is aimed primarily at adults and older children.)

Cut and paste with Collage Club and make your very own masterpiece to take home!

‘SQUID INC.’ (ALL DAY)
Squid Inc. is a fresh faced collective of inkers, thinkers, makers and shapers. The new squids on the block from Winchester School of Art. Get your diving gear on and find Mama Squid at HiFest. Her collaborative tentacle team will draw you under the sea!
SUNDAY 4TH DECEMBER
‘DEAR DIARY’ (12PM)
with Maria Ines Gul
Join Maria Ines Gul and explore the use of illustration when responding to emotion-based subjects, and looks at the therapeutic narratives involved. (Max 10 people)
‘MINI BOOKMAKING’ (2PM)
with Micro Library Books
Make your own pocket-sized concertina-folded books and explore basic bookmaking techniques – incorporating elements of collage, pop-up and movable parts.
‘CRAZY HATS’ (ALL DAY)
with Nicholas Stevenson
Create a unique piece of wearable art – an illustrative hat-making workshop in which you can tell a story on your head.
‘DESIGN YOUR OWN RECORD SLEEVE’ (11AM – 3PM)
at Wow and Flutter
Take a 1 minute walk to Wow and Flutter record and comic shop – Choose a record from the box, have a listen and create your own unique, custom record sleeve in response to the song. Prizes to be won!
